About The Intellectual Property Workshop & I.P TechSprint Challenge 2022

The Intellectual Property Workshop & I.P TechSprint Challenge 2022 is organized by the Guyana Animation Network (GAN) Inc. in collaboration with GAN Studios.

The Guyana Animation Network (GAN) Inc. in collaboration with GAN Studios has launched the first edition of their Intellectual Property (I.P) Workshop & I.P TechSprint Challenge 2022, a local 3-day intellectual property training and 5-day I.P solutions contest (TechSprint) for participating creators and businesses. This year’s I.P training and contest focuses on helping creators and business understand the fundamentals of intellectual property and practical exercises on safe use of mechanisms to safeguard and monetize their creative and business innovations.

There is I.P all around us: in the business flyers we design, the songs that we write and sing, the plays and poems we compose, the business innovations we create from ideas. Our Workshops aim to teach all participants how to protect their creations and innovations and to earn money from what they have created. The knowledge shared will also help all participating creators, businesses and organizations answer and resolved any challenges or questions related to who can use or copy their work and the steps that can be taken to protect their work.

At the end of the Workshop, participating businesses and creators will be challenged to create and develop their own solutions based on the I.P knowledge gained and an action list. This Workshop was designed to challenge Guyanese and Caribbean artists, animators, writers, creators, musicians, communications and marketing professionals and businesses to understand the role of their intellectual property of our culture and creative assets for global consumers, audiences and customers. It is also aimed at building a community of innovators and creators who will actively create solutions and extraordinary impact by expanding knowledge and solutions to drive Guyanese and Caribbean culture. The ultimate purpose of this Workshop is to equip creators and businesses with the tools needed to enhance their bargaining power and value for creative and cultural I.P assets.

The sessions will be highly interactive, practical, resource-filled and edu-taining.

I.P TechSprint Challenge 2022

The I.P TechSprint Challenge will comprise of three categories of intellectual that the problem scenarios of participating businesses and creators will fall under: trademark, copyright, trade secrets. The Challenge sets out a list of actions to be taken by each participant to boost their ability to monetize or valuate their creative and intellectual property. All participating individuals and businesses are invited to propose solutions for implementation under one or more of these categories in a 5-day Sprint.
